The FSSAA 

 
It also promotes, organises, and does all things necessary to provide, establish and support competitions, championships and events of a like nature.

The FSSAA oversees a wide spectrum of different sporting activities from angling to walking and mountaineering and for the first time these different activities (or 'Sections') - 17 in total are brought together in one easily accessible location; informing the viewer of new or up and coming events taking place at a local, national and international level.
 

The FSSAA is a National section but is split up on a regional basis we are within the Eastern Region along with Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. 

The sports that fall under the FSSAA banner are:

    • Sailing
    • Squash
    • Swimming
    • Table tennis
    • Triathlon
    • Volleyball
    • Walking and Mountaineering

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are active participants in FSSAA and our serving and retired member regularly take part in sporting events from local level up to international level including the World Firefighter games which takes place every two years. 

The Bedfordshire and Luton Sports and Welfare (BSWA) incorporates both the FSSAA sports for the service and the Welfare association which provides support for members who are injured or ill.

The BSWA committee currently comprises: 

    • Chairman - Dave Fothergill
    • Vice/Chairman - Simon Barker
    • Secretary - Darren Chambers
    • Treasurer - Paul Behan

The committee makes awards under both areas, funding and grants for sports entry fees, and assistance via the welfare side for needy people. 

Funding is obtained from two main areas: 

1. Annual Grant from the Fire Authority per member
2. A percentage of the Service Car Draw

We also occasionally receive small donations from the public and other organisations. 

Out of the income we also have to pay contributions per head to both the Regional and National FSSAA. -  The Association’s Trust Instrument and Rules (.PDF).
