Be Safe Not Sorry During Fireworks Season 

 

Introduction

Below is some advice on bonfires and fireworks to ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe and happy celebration without any unwanted injuries:

Bonfires

  • Consider going to an organised display/bonfire night in your area
  • Make sure the fire is away from fences, garden sheds and properties
  • Do not light the fire with flammable liquids and ensure no aerosol cans are nearby that could explode
  • Cordon off the area and do not let children near
  • Keep a bucket of water and hose at the ready
  • Consider wind direction
  • Never leave a bonfire unattended
  • Make sure the fire is fully extinguished before leaving it

Fireworks

Fireworks are fun but they should be used in a safe and sensible way:

  • Store fireworks in a sealed box
  • Do not drink alcohol if setting off fireworks
  • Follow the instructions on each firework
  • Stand well back when the firework has been lit
  • Never go back to a firework that has already been lit
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby
  • Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them!
  • Keep pets indoors
