Introduction
Below is some advice on bonfires and fireworks to ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe and happy celebration without any unwanted injuries:
Bonfires
- Consider going to an organised display/bonfire night in your area
- Make sure the fire is away from fences, garden sheds and properties
- Do not light the fire with flammable liquids and ensure no aerosol cans are nearby that could explode
- Cordon off the area and do not let children near
- Keep a bucket of water and hose at the ready
- Consider wind direction
- Never leave a bonfire unattended
- Make sure the fire is fully extinguished before leaving it
Fireworks
Fireworks are fun but they should be used in a safe and sensible way:
- Store fireworks in a sealed box
- Do not drink alcohol if setting off fireworks
- Follow the instructions on each firework
- Stand well back when the firework has been lit
- Never go back to a firework that has already been lit
- Keep a bucket of water nearby
- Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them!
- Keep pets indoors
