Our Strategic Planning and Consutlation process with those we serve will ensure that we continue to provide and develop a fully integrated Service to our communities, focused upon preventing emergencies and being able to respond quickly and effectively whenever needed.
We recognise we cannot realise this fully integrated Service and make our communities safer on our own, so we will be working with our partners in Bedfordshire and Luton to improve the safety and lives for all the residents, businesses and visitors in the area. Working in partnership has many benefits including the provision of improved capacity, knowledge and understanding.
We are determined to deal with the issues that affect the most vulnerable groups in our society (such as the old, very young, disabled and other minority groups).
We will achieve this through continued partnerships and contributions to Local Area Agreements (LAA). Our partners involve a wide variety of agencies from the public, private and community sectors. Together we will achieve a wide range of improvements that are not only associated with fires and other emergencies but will include:
- Working with children and young people through education and training
- Making our communiteies a safer place to live, work, visit and pass through
- Reducing crime and other anti-social behaviour
- Improving the environment
- Improving the local economy
Our plans are directly linked to local authority Sustainable Community Strategies.
We value diversity and although the Government has set goals for us to achieve, our diversity systems and practices are in place to ensuree a fair workplace. As a public service, dedicated to saving lives and property, we need to call on the skills and qualities of all of our staff. Respecting differences and ensuring high standards of health and safety, equality and fairness. As an employer we have a duty to provide a safe and fair workplace where all members of staff are valued. We must maintain, and where possible, enhance these standards and look at ways we can remove unjustifiable barriers to employment, career progression and personal development. If we can attract and retain the best people, providing them with career opportunities and job satisfaction then we are able to serve the public to the best of our ability.
