Our Vision

Our service vision is to provide an excellent fire and rescue service for the communities of Bedfordshire and Luton.  We aspire to achieve this vision, not only now but into the future.

We believe that this vision, realised through the achievement of our aims and objectives, sets out a clear understanding of why our Service is here, what we are trying to achieve, and the contribution that each of us will make.  Our strategic planning and consultation process will ensure that we continue to provide and develop a fully integrated professional service to our communities, focused upon preventing emergencies and being able to respond quickly and effectively whenever needed.

We are determined to continue to deal with the issues that affect those people in our society who are more vulnerable to risk, and will build upon the excellent partnership work that we have been engaged with over recent years.  Our partners involve a wide variety of organisations from the public, private and community sectors. Together we have and will continue to achieve a wide range of improvements that are not only associated with fires and other emergencies but will include:

  • Working with children and young people through education and training;
  • Making our communities a safer place to live, work, visit and pass through;
  • Reducing crime and other anti-social behaviour;
  • Improving the environment; and
  • Improving the local economy.

We value diversity and have set goals for us to improve representation; our diversity systems and practices are in place to ensure a fair workplace.  As a public service, dedicated to saving lives and property, we need to call on the skills and qualities of all of our staff, respecting differences and ensuring high standards of health and safety, equality and fairness.

As an employer we have a duty to provide a safe and fair workplace where all members of staff feel valued.  We must maintain, and where possible, enhance these standards and look at ways we can remove unjustifiable barriers to employment, career progression and personal development.  If we can attract and retain the best people, providing them with career opportunities and job satisfaction then we are able to serve the public to the best of our ability.
