Harrold Fire Station Celebrates 40 Years

Harrold Fire Station celebrated 40 years of service in the community with a special Open Day in September.

The Fire Station is at the heart of Harrold and for the past 40 years local people from Harrold and surrounding villages have crewed fire engines as Retained Firefighters and now take on a wider role as part of the modern Fire Service.

As well as fighting fires and attending road traffic accidents, their role is to advise the community on fire prevention and safety to reduce the risk of fire and accident.  They give talks to schools and youth groups and visit people in their homes to fit free smoke alarms.

The Retained Firefighters are men and women who live locally and can be on call to respond when the bleeper goes.  This means people who may have full or part time jobs or mums who are at home with children or people working from home.  If you live locally and have time to give to your community, you could be a Retained Firefighter.  To find out more telephone Simon Marlow (Station Commander) on 01234 245513.

The Open Day was a chance for people who live in the area or have worked at Harrold Fire Station over the last 40 years to get together, share memories and celebrate the success of a Fire Station that has seen many changes over the years up to today's modern service, but has always remained at the heart of the community.
