PERFORMING WELL

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service has been judged to be "performing and improving well" by the Audit Commission.

The announcement came on 31st January and has been welcomed by Chief Fire Officer Paul Fuller.  he says, "all credit goes to the hard work and dedication of staff throughout the Service, and the unswerving support and commitment of the Chairman and members of the Bedfordshire and Luton Combined Fire Authority".

"We are here to save lives and we are doing that through preventing, protecting and responding 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year.

We strive to work closely with, and be representative of, all the communities we serve - either directly or with partner agencies such as other emergency services and local authorities.

We are all working together to the same end - for Bedfordshire and Luton to be a safer place.

In 2008 Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service plans to focus on three main areas:

Training for Safety: Effective and persistent training will help ensure that our firefighters do their job as safely as possible as well as having increased competency to protect the public even more excellently.

Making Homes Safer: We want every home in Bedfordshire and Luton to have a working smoke alarm - it will save lives.

Helping Young People: We want to help improve the life chances for young people and in particular prevent children and young people being harmed or killed in accidental fires or becoming involved in fire crime and antisocial behaviour."
