Fire Appliance Collision September 2009 

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service has been informed that a charge of death by dangerous driving has been brought against one of our firefighters who was the driver of a fire appliance involved in a collision with a private vehicle in September 2009, whilst en route to an emergency call in Luton.  Tragically, the driver of the private vehicle subsequently died.

The Service has been deeply saddened by the incident and our thoughts and condolences remain with all those affected. 

The Service has been fully cooperating with the police throughout their investigations and has also commenced its own internal investigation, the conclusion of which will await the outcome of the legal process.

The firefighter concerned has remained on duty since the incident but has not undertaken any driving duties.  The ongoing legal proceedings mean the Service is unable to comment further on the case at this time.
