Women Overcome by Carbon Monoxide Fumes

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service received a call on Monday 28 December 2009 at 23.11 hours.

Two women were carried from the house unconscious and taken to hospital - together with a man from the house who had also inhaled the fumes. A fourth man from the house did not require hospital treatment.

The gas service was called to examine a boiler in the house and fire crews fitted smoke detectors, as there were none.  They have offered to make a return visit to the household in the New Year to conduct a complete home fire safety check on the property.

A home fire safety check by the Fire and Rescue Service are carried out FREE of charge and are designed to give residents advice about common fire hazards.  Anyone can ask for one of these by ringing 0800 043 5042.

Anyone with any queries or problems with a gas supply or boiler should contact their gas supplier or seek advice from a professional on www.gassaferegister.co.uk or follow this Government-recommended advice from the Gas Safe Register.
