The first call came in at 17.52 and two fire engines, a water carrier (required due to lack of water supplies at scene) and the aerial platform were used to put out a fire which had damaged a single storey building. Fire crews left the scene at approximately 21.00.
At 22.23 Fire Control in Kempston received a second 999 call to a fire at the same address - this time a separate, second building which required three fire engines, a water carrier and aerial platform.
“This is huge site with lots of old unused buildings and we believe the fires were started deliberately,” said a Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman.
“Our arson experts will be looking into what can be done to stop this becoming a regular problem.”
