Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Fitness Adviser to take on Spartathlon 2017

Talking about why he wants to complete this challenge Ian said: “In December 2016 a friend suggested that I enter as unbeknownst to me I had an automatic qualifying time for the event and a guaranteed place on the British Team.

“I did a little bit of research, spoke to my family and friends and decided it was too good an opportunity to pass up. It was a chance to be one of so few people to be privileged enough to be able take part in such an iconic event and represent my country proved to be too tempting to turn down.

“When I shared the news on my social media channels one of the replies I got was ‘Please do it Ian, so that we can all live our dreams through you!’ this resonated with me so I just thought, go for it. Besides I love Ultra running and 100 miles (my previous longest distance) just doesn’t seem far enough”.

Ian’s training has been very focused since July with him running 100+ miles each week, and doing lots of squats to build up his leg strength. He has also been training in the Heat Chamber at Bedfordshire University (Polhill campus) to acclimatise to Greek weather conditions.
