Our Service covers the area served by the two separate local authorities of Bedfordshire County Council and Luton Borough Council.  A Combined Fire Authority (CFA) of elected Members from these two constituent authorities oversees the Service.

 

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service currently employs:

  • 327 Wholetime and Day Crewing Firefighters based at Kempston, Bedford, Luton, Stopsley, Dunstable, Toddington and Leighton Buzzard

  • 205 Retained Firefighters (on-call system)

  • 30 Control Staff

  • 102 Support Staff

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service currently have the following emergency response vehicles:

  • 22 Rescue Pumps

  • 6 Rural Fire Units (Multi Role Vehicles and Landrovers)

  • 2 High Reach Vehicles

  • A Specialist Rescue Unit

  • An Emergency Response Unit

  • An Operational Support Unit

  • 5 Community Safety Vehicles

  • 2 Water Carriers

  • A Rescue Boat and 4 x 4 Tow Vehicle

  • A Chip Pan Demonstration Trailer

  • A Welfare Unit (Catering Van)

  • An Incident Command Unit

Additionally, an Incident Unit (IRU) based at Stopsley and 2 Prime Movers based at Bedford have been provided by Central Government to deal with incidents where people require Mass Decontamination.  We also have various other vehicles such as combo vans and Skoda Fabia Estate cars for day to day duties.

 

Providing an emergency service 24 hours 365 days a year.
Bedfordshire and Luton serves a population of 576,800 over an area of 123153 hectares
